This latest omission from the squad must be unbelievably disheartening for
him.

I can only go back to something I said some time ago, i.e. the fact that
he's not the best at coming out for crosses and that he doesn't dominate the
box like the keepers that have been selected do. I know David James
especially is prone to the odd clanger, but as a defender you want a keeper
behind you that you know is going to come out for anything in the air.
Otherwise you end up dropping too deep and inviting pressure.

That's the only thing I can think of that must be going against him. Either
that or he's upset somebody at the FA big-time!

When he runs on the pitch at the start he has in his mouth what looks like a
giant spliff. Anyone know what it really is? And could this be keeping him
out of the ES?

Apparently it is a substance to provide energy. A bit like a Mars Bar
but more high tech.
