Seems Arisen Wenger , like Raffa and a few others, has
entirely missed the point when he says that the Prem Leagues
extra game proposals deserve consideration. His reason? "The
Americans came over and played a game at Wembley....it's just
the same, there is no difference"
Cobblers of course. There is a difference in deciding to play
a scheduled match overseas (if one side agrees to give up
home advantage) and introducing one extra random fixture into
a full league system.
Enough has been said about preserving that equality of games
that gives the league system greater integrity than any other,
but it is worth noting that, in the last decade of the Prem,
an extra random fixture could have influenced the outcome over
20 times. It could have influenced both entry and automatic
entry into the next season Champions league. plus entry into
the Euro Cup.
On two occasions the result of an random extra game could have
decided the title itself, and in 50% of these seasons it could
have changed the make up of the three sides relegated. This is
the extent of pollution this scheme brings.......for what?
I notice that Grant of Chelsea has also added his voice to the
"should be considered" group. Do these two really not
understand the quality of what they have, or are their views a
reflection of what their bosses feel? We might wonder when Mr
Wenger who, just a short time ago was so concerned about the
number of games we play he was promoting "no FA Cup replays",
should now be happy over the suggestion of one extra league
game played thousands of miles away.
I suspect a very deep hypocrisy here, not for more cash of
course, simply to promote The Prem League clubs overseas.
LOL.....I am sure that Derby Counties Chinese fan base would
increase by thousands after Arsenal beat them 4-0 in Hong Kong.
