Walter has persisted with his peek-a-boo football for as long as I can
remember; when he thinks his team are inferior to the opposition. He played
the same system with a poor Everton team using Kevin Campbell as the lone
striker and it worked in so much as it preserved the teams` status in the
EPL.Did the same thing with Scotland and was praised for his abilities
compared to what had gone before. He hammered a poor Celtic for the best part
of nine years ,recognising that his domestic challenge was for the most part
a joke......However he now has a team that is four points clear in the SPL
and is facing a difficult time from some of the more discerning afficiondaos
of the darkside. It was a serious negative to play the way Rangers did in the
euro consolation cup especially considering it doesn`t really matter. From a
Celtic point of view I would obviously prefer Rangers to " c`mon have
go......" as an open entertaining game would play to Celtics` strengths but
I think Walter has a game plan and he refuses to adapt/change/update..etc
because he thinks it is the only way to win the SPL...it worked against
Tommy Burns when the going got tough and he believes it will serve him well
again.

Cheers

So basically you are upset that Rangers will win the league on the back of
some boring football?

"I would obviously prefer Rangers to *come & have a go* as an open
entertaining game would play to Celtics` strengths..."

???

Maybe if you email Walter Smith and explain that you think his formation and
tactics are causing him success over your team, he'll change things to suit
Celtic's strengths.... Sorry, it disnae work like that.
We'll play pish to the end of the season, and we'll win the league, get over
it.

PS.. should this no be called 'The Smith Thing' seeing as how Boyd isn't
mentioned once in the text?

No danger of that happening..times have changed and a 4 point gap is not
going to be enough to stop Celtic.

Oh pleeeese ..I don't doubt Walters determination to win at all costs...he
is a professional as is WGS.It's just his thinking seems outdated and at
times unforgiveable(see uefa cup reference)

The Boyd thing is a reference to the reluctance to play the goal machine as
a consequence of Walters tactics being unable /unwilling to accomodate
him...a fact widely noted and reported in the press.

That's not really a strong argument though. And I think the tide may
be turning in Celtic's favour. We are playing some really good
football and getting good results. We did well in the transfer window
and this has really freshened things up. I'm really looking forward to
the title run in. C'mon the hoops!
