All three?
I download new messages... server count reads 28.
Filters go through, and 1 is left.
The only people I have kill-filed are the Manc trolls.
You gotta be kidding me.

This is the point I made a while ago. It is getting out of hand and causing
many decent posters to clear off and search elsewhere for some decent
debate. And yet it is so obvious who the main culprits are. They also know
exactly who they are and I can only assume they set out with the sole aim of
destroying this ng. Pathetic.

Would someone in the arse group be kind enough to post their definition of
'troll'.
Mine is someone who posts in an inflammatory way despite having no interest
in the topic they're writing on.
Posting in order to elicit a response of course does not cover it, as that
is surely what every poster is doing, or what would be the point?
Nor is it, as some posters on the arse group seem to imagine, posting
something that happens to disagree with whatever you've posted.
If you post opinions on usenet you should be prepared for someone to post
counter-opinions. If they are backed up with fact, as mine often are, then
you can't just cry 'troll' simply because you find their content not to your
liking.
It's the old Marxist dialectic in its purest form. Thesis - antithesis -
synthesis.
ie - only through debate will we reach understanding.
It's highly amusing that posters such as Baldoni and Manx inflict their
musings on us, and then cry troll and claim to reach for the killfile as
soon as they're met with any reasoned opposition.
I challenge either of them to re-post the recent posts from me that have
made them level accusations of trolling at me and reach for the apron
strings of their killfiles.
Do so, or be exposed for the cowardly sophists I believe you to be.

I don't believe I've ever posted anything regarding your finances. Not my
area of interest.
You have about six outstanding questions from me that require answers.
Are you avoiding them because you can't answer without making yourself look
ridiculous?

Check this:
"Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This
Hegelian dialectic
-noun an interpretive method, originally used to relate specific
entities or events to the absolute idea, in which some assertible
proposition (thesis) is necessarily opposed by an equally assertible
and apparently contradictory proposition (antithesis), the mutual
contradiction being reconciled on a higher level of truth by a third
proposition (synthesis)."
Marx was an eclectic, he borrowed liberally from others and created a
monster. Honor the real author of Hegelian dialectics.

Oh bugger I basically agree with you ... there seems to be a group of
Arsenal posters that class troll with someone who happens to disagree
with their views and recently some of their views have been so biased as
to make even Wenger look like a even handed man. |

Some of them seem to live in some strange moral bubble.
I do like reading this group though, posters like Cupra and
lifestoocomplicated and even occasionally Balders are worth reading and I
have enjoyed some of my correspondence with them. |

I'll use Wikipedia's:
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts
controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online
community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting
other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal
on-topic discussion.
the key bit I normally object to on here is "with the intention of baiting
other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal
on-topic discussion."
this happens far too often in quite deliberately inflammatory ways, together
with arguments that are sometimes irrational, unproven and sometimes
downright lies. threads also career off into personal insults and childish
point-scoring for no apparant reason with all rational and logical thought
thrown out of the window.
but sadly it seems to me that this is by both man utd AND arsenal fans
lately. as well as random other supporters who are worse than both.
but there are some good discussions and also some good posters from other
newsgroups as well who deserve a mention as they all too easily get caught
up with the bad. |

I thought the following from Wikipedia was also of interest:
Usage
The term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as
trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution
to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often erroneously used
to discredit an opposing position, or its proponent, by argument fallacy ad
hominem.
Often, calling someone a troll makes assumptions about a writer's motives.
Regardless of the circumstances, controversial posts may attract a
particularly strong response from those unfamiliar with the robust dialogue
found in some online, rather than physical, communities.
Experienced participants in online forums know that the most effective way
to discourage a troll is usually to ignore him or her, because responding
encourages a true troll to continue disruptive posts - hence the often-seen
warning "Please do not feed the troll".[citation needed]
Frequently, someone who has been labelled a troll by a group may seek to
redeem their reputation by discrediting their opponents, for example by
claiming that other members of the group are closed-minded, conspirators, or
trolls themselves.
something for everyone to think about there... |
