Putting the predictions into my spreadsheet for the last couple of years
has been a bit of a pain in the neck.
So one day, promptly after England's exit from the World Cup I decided
to build a web site to do this, where you all can log in individually
and post your scores as far in advance as you like. You can enter and
alter your predictions - before the match only .
This means that I won't really have to do anything other than maintain
the list of players, games and results.
Also, I'm not here for the first four weeks of the season so if we can
get it up and running before then I can give someone else the ability to
put the results in - WSB fancy a bit of admin - it's easy, honest?
Anyway, can you do some testing for me? (I have tested the system but
programmers can rarely kill their own programs!)
If so, please visit www.winchcombe.org and send me a message via the
'Contact Me' page - giving me your choice of user id (e.g. filarkonus,
oceantragic) and a password and I'll set you up, reply to you, and you
can get testing.
To aid testing:
1. I have set the system up so that it thinks the current date is
four months from the actual date, this means that you'll be able
to amend future games but not ones in the past.
2. Put in results for the games up to 11/11/2006
3. Put in a couple of games for last season - I'll do the rest later.

Okay, sounds good to me, I've sent a message with my user/pass.

I've been tinkering with the site over the last couple of days so if it
wasn't working, it was probably due to that.
I've loaded all the games, predictions and scores in for 2005/6 if you
want to have a look.

I'm having problems still... after logging in, I can see the games
(although for some reason the 2006/7 games already have final scores!?)
When I click select, I see the bit on the right to enter my prediction,
but it just doesn't take the cursor so I can't put anything in the
boxes. It's like the fields are deactivated. I've tried in IE6 and
Firefox 1.5 but it doesn't seem to be a browser issue.

I think OT mentioned that all predictions would be wiped before the season
starts (just for testing).
Also, (again for testing) I don't think you can currently predict before
25/11/06 (Luton match) try that.
It still seems to open on page 2 though ?

WSB is correct in that - for testing purposes only - the working date is
set to four months from now. 23rd July + four months = 23rd November.
That's why in opens on page two as the next match (four months from now)
is the Luton match (cheers WSB) so you should be able to predict for
that - if you do if before 3pm on Wednesday. After 3pm on Wednesday you
will not be able (I hope) to predict the Luton match but will be able to
see you prediction.
After the 25th it the predictions page should open on page 3
But all of this is just for testing.
Soon I will wipe everything, scores and results, out and then we'll be
ready to start properly for the season.
I've no doubt that issues may/will occur but hopefully they'll all be
sorted in time.
If anyone has any issues posting predictions using the site then,
temporarily, post them to the newsgroup and I will sort out everything
when I return from holiday. I am away from 5th August to 2nd September.
Cheers everyone for all the testing you've done,

I am going to wipe the scores and set up the system to be live sometime
this weekend.
So from next week you'll need to go in and predict the scores for each
game. You can enter your predictions either weeks in advance or just
enter your prediction for the next game to be played.
You should be able to enter/amend your prediction anytime BEFORE the
game starts, after the game starts you will no longer be able to enter
or amend your prediction.
If there's any problems entering your prediction just post it to the
newsgroup before the game and when I get from hols I'll sort out the
problem and the scores/results.
If anyone else wants to join the predictions league please get them to
contact me now (via www.winchcombe.org) so I can set them up.
Best of luck for the season,
OceanTragic
