Cant help but feel very disappointed over this.Does feel like he used the
vacant scotland job as a stepping stone knowing WS really had implemented
the improvements.Sadly managing the international team doesnt seem much of
an honour these days!

Or payday.

At the time though I didn't notice anyone else clambering to be
appointed to the post.

Say what you like about Andy Roxburgh, Craig Brown and even Berti Vogts, but
at least they were committed to the job. Walter and Big Eck have treated the
job as a stepping stone. At least have the courtesy to stay for the full
term of a qualifying campaign, which neither of them did.

I read recently that the average tenure for a manager is only a couple of
years anyway. What exactly is he going to be able to achieve at Birmingham?
The best they can hope for is qualify for the UEFA Cup and a good cup run.

They stayed as nobody else was interested in hiring them.

I'm sure that the queue outside the SFA will be chocker with patriotic
Scottish managers wanting the job.
I suspect Moyes and Strachan will be right at the front of the queue.

I bet it will be Souness who gets the job!

required amount of passion.. I was putting my money on him as well.

Maybe because he was the only prominent Scot out of a job at the time!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Souness someone who used to pull out of
Scotland squads when he did not actually have an injury? I seem to remember
hearing that in the past, but I could be wrong.

I've not hard feelings towards Eck. He did all he could do for Scotland.
Really looking forward to the Birmingham derby. Will be interesting to see
how he shapes up against MON in the Premier League. I wonder if
anti-football will save him from relegation to the Championship?

possibly but he has 54 caps for Scotland which is 17= and one behind Denis
Law. He had a very successful club career in fact him and Kenny D were
probably the most successful players at club level in the history of
"Scottish" football bearing in mind that European cups are harder to win
than League titles..

he did quite well at Rangers. Gary MacAllister has no managerial experience
worth talking about and he is a candidate!

Well if he is an SFA candidate then the whole of the SFA should resign!

point taken but that is where an international manager is different. Richard
Gough is backing GS today on the radio. How about the great Kenny for
manager? The fact is no manager will succeed at the very top for long these
days without quite a bit of money. The fact that a manager didn't succeed at
Newcastle in particular shouldn't be too surprising. There comes a time when
it is more than the manager that needs to go!

I am not sure what you class as failure. Look at his record (in management)
of honours won. Winning trophies at 4 different clubs is not too bad,
although he would not be my first choice for Scotland manager.

Rangers
Winners
1986-87 Scottish League Cup
1986-87 Scottish Premier League (Level 1)
1987-88 Scottish League Cup
1988-89 Scottish League Cup
1988-89 Scottish Premier League (Level 1)
1989-90 Scottish Premier League (Level 1)
1990-91 Scottish League Cup
1990-91 Scottish Premier League (Level 1) (Left with 5 games to go)

Liverpool
Winners
1991-92 FA Cup

Galatasaray
Winners
1995-96 Turkish Cup
1996-97 Turkish Super Cup

Blackburn Rovers
Winners
2001-02 League Cup
