Makes good business sense. With one UEFA spot gone to Spuds and only
2 of the 4 possible ECL entrants left in the cup it's possible that
another UEFA Cup place could go to the cup winners, leaving only one
UEFA cup place to the team finishing 5th. As there's only 5 points
between the RS in 5th and Blackburn in 9th it's no surprise that
virtually all of the 6 teams competing for 4th & 5th place have taken
out Inter-Toto 'insurance'. I would imagine that if Liverpool's
owners knew the first thing about the Premier League they'd also do
the same!
Still, it will be funny if the RS get pipped to 5th place by Villa and
they find themselves out of Europe and with no European TV money to
pay the £25m interest payment due next season!
