Apparently about as much as Dick Advocaat knew about promising 'tenacious
midfielders'.

Think Rino. Think Gattuso. Who, btw, was discovered and nurtured and played
in his natural role by Walter Smith. Dick wanted to play him out of position
and Rino chose to be a CL and World Cup Winner in Milan rather than an Ibrox
Couldabeen. No accounting for choice.

This sounds to me like the rewriting of history. Although Smith saw in
Rino something Dick did not, I would doubt if it was clear that
Gattuso would have been half the player under Advocaat that he is now.

Also, Murray was happy to move Smith out after NIAR for Dick, and
didn't Dick do well for you as a manager until confronted with the
renascence Celts and the supreme MON.....?
