I'd love to, but being a few thousand miles away and only seeing the
occasional match live and a few more on delayed broadcast, it may be
slightly difficult.
However, if this Premier League plan to play random fixtures in
foreign cities who have to bid for the pleasure actually happens, I
will be resigning my support for English football entirely. I'd rather
go watch my local team out here play in front of 50 bored spectators
than support the money-grabbing American wannabes in England.
FACT: English football and Sunderland in particular, is not where it
is today because of a random fan in Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore or
Tokyo, it is because of the fans in England.
PREDICTION: If this is to go through, expect Sunderland to be changed
to the "Black Cats" within 10 years.

Hi Paul,
I'm now living the very tough life out here in Singapore. Every day
like a hot, august day. Every single day........well, apart from when
it rains. But thats warm rain, so doesn't count! And only 5% income
tax rate. And trains that run on time. And a health service that works
(hospitals like 5* hotels, GP appointments by just walking in off the
street unannounced, appointments with specialists the next day, etc).
Goods and services that are priced at sensible, non-rip off prices
(other than Nintendo, sadly). And a cheap plane ride from an area that
starts with India in the West, stretches to Hawaii in the East, from
China in the North, to Oz in the South. Beat that Ryanair
Wish I could still go to the match though Thank god for the
football channel - sky commentators too. Pity the highlight of the
studio guests is Steve McMahon and John Burridge (fashion sense from
Barry Venison!).

Don't they execute people for littering there?? :-]]
Nice to have you back in the group.
I'm seeing more live games this year thanks to Setanta.
Don't know when I'll get to another at the SSOL though!

Hah, they are *very* strict here - littering, automatic fine. Eating
on the public transport, automatic fine. Crossing the yellow line on
the platform before the train has stopped, $500 fine. Vandalism,
caning. And a fine.
And you know what? Its the safest place you could ever hope to be. The
crime levels are so low, they have to put up posters everywhere
saying: "Low Crime does not mean No Crime". Its also the cleanest city
ever (apart from Little India for some reason).
Mind, its lucky I don't drink - an average Sunderland night out of
getting drunk, singing some songs, grabbing a kebab and getting the
bus/train home could give you so many fines that it wipes out your
wages
Did I mention the 5% income tax?

I got onto this NG to learn more about the game. I have done that and in
the process became a fan, check in most days, care if there is a loss, win,
signing, etc. etc. In the process I have come to contrast World football
with the same game in my country, as well as American football, baseball,
basketball, and hockey.
I have come to realize that regardless of the league, it is all about the
money. Different leagues and different countries have different ways of
doing it, but in the end it is all about the money.
Now if the EPL were to add a game with a random draw to be played on neutral
soil in addition to the other 38 scheduled games, who
cares....................other than that it would add to the leagues
presence, ability to attract quality players, outshine the other European
leagues on the world stage, etc. Would it be any different than a FA Cup
game, Carling Cup, or other diversion from the current schedule?

Pah, you traitor. Fancy moving somewhere that's too far to commute to the
match. Call yourself a supporter? |
