Everton are lining up a £5million swoop for Marseille captain Lorik Cana.

Goodison boss David Moyes is keen to sign the Albania international during
the summer transfer window, according to French website mercato365.com, but
the Toffees are likely to face competition from Bayern Munich and Roma for
the midfielder's services.

Moyes' scouts reportedly watched the 24-year-old turn in a star performance
during Marseille's 3-0 UEFA Cup triumph over Spartak Moscow a fortnight ago.

And with both the French club and Everton, currently fourth in the Barclays
Premier League, still in the last 16 of the competition, there is potential
for Moyes pitting his present midfield resources up against Cana later in
the tournament.

Cana is in his third season with Marseille, having previously spent three
years with their Ligue 1 arch-rivals Paris St Germain.

Born in Kosovo, he fled the war-torn country for Switzerland as a boy and
first played for Lausanne Sports before joining PSG in 2002.

Cana, who has won 24 caps for Albania and he has citizenship of three
countries - Albania, Switzerland and France - is under contract until 2012,
although Marseille have failed to persuade him to sign an extension.

Everton face Fiorentina in the UEFA Cup next month, while Marseille play
Zenit St Petersburg.

I know but how funny would it be watching Liverpool's physio trying to
remove Gerrards knackers from his throat?
