Interesting points being raised about finding 'the best team in Europe'. I
think that most people would agree that the UCL fails to deliver
conclusively in this respect.

I am interested in knowing what people think about the possibility of a
European Super League. Is it inevitable? Is it a good idea? Would this
deliver the answer to the ultimate question? Would it mark the end of
domestic leagues and even international tournaments?

My personal view is that it is probably inevitable in the long run, there
will end up a point where it becomes viable and in demand and there is such
a gulf between the big clubs and the others that the respective leagues will
become altogether too predictable and uncompetitive.

I am not sure if I am a supporter of a Super League being created but if it
happened I would happily get wrapped in it quite quickly, and I would prefer
to see my team playing against a premier club each week. Imagine playing
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Inter, MU, Chelsea, etc week in week out -
fantastic. The first couple of seasons would be really fascinating to see
how the teams develop, whether playing styles change and a particular brand
of football wins out or whether individual country's teams continue the same
format and styles.

It will in all likelihood be devastating to the leagues in each country with
only a couple of divisions of teams in the big countries sustaining a
need/demand/wish for something further. A UK league would like restructure
with some clubs merging. If you assume Arsenal, MU, Chelsea and Liverpool go
into the new Super League, then you would likely end up with two big teams
in London and one in each major city/region. Clubs like Tottenham, Man City,
Everton, Newcastle are likely to be at the forefront in this respect.

The lower divisions are unlikely to survive due to the financial burdens
some are already suffering with. That may be something thats necessary in
any case.

Even now I think that international tournaments, whilst exciting and a great
united national event (England in a World Cup period is a completely
different country!), the football leaves something to be desired. Club
football is often a better standard, and the mix of players create fantastic
teams with their own playing style and brand of football. A European Super
League would attract the best players without a doubt and surely this would
be the best football competition you could get?
