I am not sure of the rules of soccer. From the evidence I have seen it
seems that it's OK to:
(1) Hold on to the opponents jersey (if you are Brazil)
(2) Tackle people around the waist in the opponents goal square (if you are
Brazil)
(3) King hit the opponent's goal keeper while they are attempting to stop
you scoring a goal (if you are Japan)
(4) Not leave the field after you have been sent off (if you are Croatia)
(5) King hit the opponents if you loose (if you are Argentina)
(6) Pretend to fall over (if you are Italy)
BUT surprisingly after being on the receiving end of the above anomalies (if
you are Australia) you will be penalised if you loose your footing while
trying to go for the ball and this will cost you your place in the World
Cup.
But it's not just the rules that I find amusing. People rave about soccer
being a world game. How come in this 'so called' world game can we end up
with four European teams in the finals. Clearly the lead up to the finals
is just theatre. Teams from all over the world compete but they can never
win - the officials and the draws see to that. In fact when has the World
Cup of this WORLD GAME ever been won by a team outside Europe or South
America? When Japan, India or China win, then we might have world game.
Sorry Europe - you are not the 'WORLD'.
I looked at Soccer with an open mind a month ago. What I have seen has
convinced me it's not the game for me. The evidence of corruption, bias,
poor sportsmanship and doggy rules is just too overwhelming. But I guess I
wont have to worry for another 30 years - someone at FIFA will see to that.
