Today we have been to the very top of League 1 albeit for a short time, some
of us were fortunate to see the league table look like it did before later
results changed things again. For Leeds Fans it was just a Christmas Bonus
and hopefully a preview of things in store for later in the season.
Hartlepool is not an easy away game for anyone.

We are almost half way through the season and can win the championship with
8 draws (we have 4) and 5 defeats (we have 2) for 92 points We are still 1
point ahead of schedule for the title at this stage though Swansea are also
still on target too, Nobody else is on target

Runner Up can be achieved with 9 draws (we have 4) and 6 defeats (we have 2)
for 87 points

Here is my projected end of the Season, remember this is with Leeds -15 and
Luton -10 already taken off. This takes account of all league games played
this season, no selective results to get Leeds to the top.

The table below shows the average points needed to make each position in the
League 1 table since 2000/1 in brackets.

Then the table shows what each team is on target for, based on points earned
so far. No speculation just the facts, like them or not.

But remember this projection shifts each week. Leeds have gone down 3 points
this time to 94

Goal Difference still indicates these teams to be top 4 :-

Leeds +26
Forest +21
Swansea +20
Carlisle +14

I don't think you have projected Bertie Bassett into the mix. With Gus
we were getting an average of 2.69 pts per game. With Bassett that is
only 1.55 pts per game on average (and that could drop!). I think you
have based the rest of the season on the whole season so far. The rest
of our season though we don't have Gus as coach only Bassett.

So if you look at the games we have remaining which is 24, and time by
the average points we get per game with the Wise/Bassett combination
then we will only get another 37 points to the end of the season which
will see us finish with about 74 points, possibly less. So at best (at
the moment) unless they get their act together or get rid of Bassett,
we will only finish fifth or sixth in the league for a playoff finish.
And then it is pot luck if we go up or not.
